There will be no operation in 59 kindergartens in Reykjavik and all swimming pools in Reykjavik will be closed tomorrow except Klébergslaug swimmingpool on Kjallarnes, which will only be open from 16-22.

Many women's organizations, queer people and workers have called a women's strike tomorrow, where women and the queer population are called to quit their paid and unpaid jobs that day.

The notice on the website of the city of Reykjavik says that the strike will have a considerable impact on the city’s operations and services, as about 75% of the city’s employees are women or men. However, important services for vulnerable groups will not be affected, but services such as swimming pools, schools and museums will be closed or reduced. No wages will be reduced as a result of the strike.

Museums

The family and domestic zoo in Laugadalur will be open but with reduced services. The museum of maritime heritage and the Ásmundarsafn museum will be closed.

The city libraries in Grófin, Kringlan and Gerðuberg will be open until 16 pm. The city library in Úlfarsárdalur will be open while the building is open but services will be limited. The city libraries in Árbær, Spöngin, Sólheimar and Kléberg will be closed.

The service center in Reykjavik will be closed because of the strike. People are asked to contact the service center if matters are urgent. The reception in Reykjavik City Hall will be closed, but it will be open in Borgartún. Everybody will be welcomed back on Wednesday.

Reduction of opening time during day stays

In the welfare sector, measures have been taken to ensure that necessary services are not impaired. This applies to services for people with disabilities in their homes and to work and activity-based support services, home-care, nursinghome services and emergency services for people with high and complex needs. Other services that can be delayed will not be operated today.

There will be a reduced opening time in day-care centers for older people, but there will be open in day-care centers in Þorrasel from 8 to 12 and in Esjatún in Vitatorg from 10 to 13.30. No influence will be on the repatriation of food. Open and hot food at lunchtime: Bólstaðarhlið, Vita-torg, Ársskógar, Norður-brún, Furu-gerði, Dalbraut 27, Lönguhlíð, Þorrasel and Hraunbær. Food-consuming stores in Hvassa-leiti, Aflagranda, Dalbraut 18, Borgir and Hæðagarður will be closed.

Schools and pre-schools

In 59 pre-schools in Reykjavík, there will be no operation tomorrow. Six pre-schools will be open but the service will be reduced in accordance with the number of male employees working there. The six pre-schools that offer reduced service are Drafnarsteinn, Múlaborg, Nóaborg, Vesturborg, Rauðhóll and Seljaborg.
