Many hundreds of people walk daily to the volcanic eruption sites on the Reykjanes peninsula, according to a count posted on the website of the Icelandic Tourist Board.

It states that on Tuesday, around 850 people have walked to the eruption sites at Litli-Hrútur, in Geldingadalur and Meradalur valleys, and over the past seven days close to five thousand have joined these routes.

Since the first volcanic eruption at Fagradalsfjall in March 2021, the eruption sites have been viewed by nearly seven hundred thousand people. The eruption in Litli-Hrútur was officially declared finished on August 6 2023.
