The half-marathon of the Reykjavik Marathon, which will run this coming Saturday, August 19, is sold out, and the registration has rather exceeded the expectations of organizers as reported in a press release on their behalf.

There are a handful of tickets left for the entire marathon, ten kilometers and the so-called Fun Run but it looks like all tickets for all distances will be sold out when the first runners set up asphalt on Saturday morning.

This is an explosion of participation, with registration for the half-marathon 30 percent higher than last year and about 25 percent higher for other distances of the event, Culture Night  in the centre of Reykjavík.

It is possible to change names on tickets up to the race

“The half-marathon sold out quickly this weekend, but it happened so fast that it was not possible to announce that it was going to be sold out. We added 250 tickets on Sunday, which finished as soon as it was safe to say that the half-marathon was very popular. It is, however, possible to change the names on the tickets up to the race, so those who do not see fit to come can allow other interested runners to use the ticket,” event director Hrefna Hlín Sveinbjörnsdóttir was quoted as saying.

Raised over ISK 99 million

The weekend’s runners have already raised over ISK 99 million, over 20 million more than the same time last year, but Hlaupastyrkur is the largest single collection in terms of most charities this year, and hopes to raise more this year than last year, the announcement says.

The Reykjavík Marathon begins in Sóleyjargata and ends in Lækjargata and the first runners will be started at 8:40 AM on Saturday and the last at 12:00. For more information, visit the Reykjavík Marathon’s website.
