Alongside the telecommunications companies' development of 5G transmitters, network quality in non-urban areas has improved dramatically and there is now a dedicated 5G network equipped for summer house residences at Vodafone.

According to the Icelandic Property Registry’s count, there are 15,000 registered Icelandic summer cabins in Iceland. The vast majority of them are located in South and West Iceland. Many of them are located in areas where fixed line internet connection is not available, so 4G and 5G internet routers must be used in order to reach internet connection in those areas, Vodafone reports.

High demand for summer cabin owners

Special 5G network equipment for summer cabins is now available at Vodafone, but the announcement says that there is a strong demand for such equipment, especially for summer cabins in Grímsnes, where the 5G connection should be very good.

Vodafone has installed about 100 5G transmitters nationwide and more are expected in popular summer cabin areas. The announcement also says that customers who have switched from 4G to 5G say they are experiencing a big difference in online speed, especially in TV streaming.

“No one should accept a bad internet connection as the new 5G technology is indeed making life easier for users,” Siggeir Erni Steinþórsson, director of product development and customer experience at Vodafone, is quoted as saying in the announcement.
