The interest of foreign tourists in coming to Iceland this summer has increased, according to Jóhannes Þór Skúlason, director of the Icelandic Tourist Association.

However, he says, it is not possible to know whether increased demand is due to a volcanic eruption or the heatwave in Europe and other parts of the world.

“The demand for Iceland is extremely high, as Iceland has a good reputation and tourists coming to Iceland are very happy,” Skúlason says. “We are aware of the increased interest in the various vendors’ sales systems, especially in coming and exploring the volcanic eruption.”

He says that tourists still have the chance to come to Iceland, although the notice is short, as both lodging and rented cars are still available, “although it’s probably a little more complicated for large groups.”
