The fire was being put out in the vicinity of the eruption at Litli-Hrútur volcano until about two o’clock last night, according to Fire Inspector Daniel Karlsson, from the Grindavík Fire Department.

“It went well. We were able to put out the smaller fire at least as far as to the footpath,” Karlsson tells mbl.is.

He says that at 8 AM., firefighters' preparations began and then, as a result, fire crews will resume putting out the fire in the moss surrounding the eruption site.
