Árni Þór Sigurðsson, the Icelandic ambassador in Moscow in Russia has left the city. Earlier this month it was revealed that the embassy was going to suspend its operations in Russia on August 1.
“These have been truly eventful years here in Russia and not everything has been predictable, to say the least. But ahead of are new projects that I look forward to taking on,” Sigurðsson says in a Facebook posting, posting a photo of himself with suitcases outside the embassy.
Iceland has operated an embassy in Moscow since 1944, except in 1951-1953 when trade was down between the two countries.
