There will be an open house at Bessastaðir tomorrow, June 18th, from 13:00-16:00.  The President, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, will welcome visitors and pedestrians who can now view the the presidential residence. Bessastaðir has a long history and it is a group of buildings, including Bessastaðastofa, a reception room, a service wing, the President’s residents and more.

Historical building

“Bessastaðastofa was built in the 18th century and has a great history. Presidents’ donations are displayed in the building, and the archaeological remains of the basement give a glimpse of the residence of the people of Bessarabians from the time of the settlement. In addition to the Bessastaðastofa, visitors will also be able to visit the reception hall and the presidential library. Then the first presidential car, President Sveinn Björnsson’s Packard, will stand in the ramp, the vehicle being a 1942 model,” is reported in an announcement from Bessastaðir.

The staff of the President's office and assistants will assist guests and provide further information.
