Foreign nationals in Iceland increased by 7.8% in the last six months

The number of foreign nationals with registered residency in Iceland has increased by 7.8% in the last six months. At the same time, the proportion of Icelandic citizens living in Iceland has decreased by 5.3 percentage points, from 87.6% to 82.3%.

A total of 69,593 foreign nationals were registered as resident on June 1. Since December 1, 2022, there has been an increase of 5,08%,

The number of Ukrainian citizens has increased by 40.6% since December 1, and at the beginning of the month a total of 3,184 Ukrainian citizens were registered as residents of Iceland according to the National Registry, an increase of 919 individuals during the period.

At the same time, there has been a significant increase in the number of citizens from Romania, or about 12.4% of whom are 451 persons during the said period, and currently there are 4,074 persons with Romanian citizenship residing in Iceland. The number of Polish citizens increased during the above period by 1,449 persons or by 6.2%, and now there are 24,745 Polish citizens living in Iceland.

A relative increase was also seen from Belarus, or a 50% increase, which is an increase of 15 persons and the relative increase from Lebanon is 44.4%, which is only an increase of four persons.

Over the same period, the number of Icelandic citizens increased by 793, or 0.2%. Nevertheless, the percentage of Icelandic citizens has decreased by 5.3 percentage points, from 87.6% to 82.3%.
