The rescue team Dagrenning at Hvolsvöllur put up a safety line at Heljarkambur , a ridge that connects Fimmvörduháls to Morinsheiði.
This will be the third time the rescue team has set up a security line at the ridge. According to Birgir Svan Björgvinsson, a member of Dagrenning rescue team, the ridge has been the cause of numerous emergency calls.
All the calls could have been resolved with improved access through Heljarkambur (the name literally means ridge of hell), but a security line is a useful accident prevention measure at the beginning of the summer season, which decreases the accidents and the number of calls as well.

As summer comes and the snow melts, a safety chain becomes visible, making it easier to travel the area. Then the safety line will be removed.
Usually around 4-5 members of Dagrenning rescue team have travelled together on snowmobiles to Fimmvörduháls, but this winter the team acquired a snowtruck, so it was also used on this trip.
The trip was also used to find safe routes for the summer, in case of an emergency, but it is important to know in advance what routes are available.
Dagrenning rescue team encourages everyone to be careful while travelling through Fimmvörduháls and to pay attention to their equipment.
