Film Studios and theatre in Gufunes

The city council yesterday agreed to enter talks with film companies RVK Studios and True North about the construction of four film studios in Gufunes, which would total around 8,800 square metres in size. This would be an addition to the existing studio in Gufunes.
Likewise, the council has agreed to open talks with Vesturport about the development of cultural, artistic and residential space in Gufunes. The idea is to have a creative theatre space that connects theatre, circus and physical practice.
Óli Örn Eiríksson, team leader of the “City of Industry” project at the mayor’s office, says the planned RVK Studios and True North cinemas complement two more RVK Studios in Gufunes.
Creative neighbourhood
Eiríksson says that there have been calls for partners, but the city has sought to attract creative companies in Gufunes. The planned construction of these sites will be a major piece of the work in the restoration of Gufunes as a creative neighbourhood. A number of apartments have been sold in the neighbourhood, including in the Jöfursbás.
Eiríksson says that it is realistic that construction can begin at the beginning of next year.
