Think the body might be of a missing man
The body found on a beach in Borgarnes yesterday is suspected to be that of Modestas Antanavicius, who went missing on January 7th.
This is confirmed by Helgi Pétur Ottesen, a detective with the West Iceland Police, to mbl.is.
He says the forensic pathology department of Landspítali now has the body in his care.
"A forensic pathologist along with the National Police Commissioner of Teaching will investigate and work on the case as is standard in these kinds of cases, despite our suspicions that this is this missing person."
An extensive search was conducted at the beginning of the year for Modestas, who was last seen in Olís, Borgarnes.
Ottesen says that these are, however, only the suspicion of the police, and has not been verified at this point.
