The patrol vessel Þór has arrived in Neskaupstaður, but the crew tied up the mooring just before midnight last night. This is confirmed by Ásgeir Erlendsson, the information officer of the Icelandic Coast Guard.

The patrol vessel has first responders and supplies, but the land route to Neskaupstaður is impassable due to copious amounts of snow.

The patrol vessel is expected to accommodate 20 people overnight.

Closed roads

Avalanches occurred in Neskaupstaður and Seyðisfjörður yesterday. Severe damages to property have been caused and people were injured when one flood fell into a settlement and onto a family home.

A large group of rescue teams have been stuck in Egilsstaðir today waiting to move on, but the roads are blocked in many parts of East Iceland due to the snow.

Last night, rescue team members could finally be ferried over to Seyðisfjörður, where the patrol vessel had arrived to ferry them on to Eskifjörður and Neskaupstaður.

Then a pregnant woman was taken by Coast Guard helicopter earlier last night from Neskaupstaður to Egilsstaðir.
