A Coast Guard helicopter was called out this morning to the hiking route at Glymur in Hvalfjörður because of a person who had fallen down.

According to Jón Þór Víglundsson, information officer of the Icelandic Accident Prevention Society, Landsbjörg, rescue teams in the entire southwest corner were called in due to difficult conditions.

Ásmundur Kr. Ásmundsson, the deputy chief of police in West Iceland, confirms to mbl.is that a call was received from an emergency line at 10:27 am due to a person falling about five metres from the walk path.

He does not have information on the condition of the individual.

The person who fell on the hiking route has been located at Glym this morning and rescue operations are in full swing. It is a foreign tourist.

“We are working on this. It is clear that the fall was more than five meters,” says Ásmundsson, and adds that foreign tourists were there.

Difficult conditions

He says the accident is serious and mentions that work on the investigation aspect is also ongoing.
