The mediation proposal of Ástráður Haraldsson, the acting state mediator in the Icelandic collective bargaining agreement between Efling Union and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA), has been approved and put into effect as a collective bargaining agreement between the parties. This means that all strikes and work bans are now off the table.

This was announced in a notice from the state mediator’s office just now.

Efling’s turnout was about 22.77%, and the proposal was approved by 4,189 votes against 744 votes. So 84.92% of those who voted were in favour of the proposal, and 15.08% against it.

The SA’s turnout was much higher at 81.37%. The margin of votes was also more decisive than the votes cast in the proposal, with 424,694, making up 98.5% of the votes cast, with only 6,090 votes cast against it, or about 1.41%.

Backdated pay raises

Voting on the proposal began at noon on the Friday before the weekend and ended at 10 AM today. The state mediator’s office’s website indicates that members of Efling Union will receive the same pay raises as in the contract of other members of the Occupational Trade Unions. There will be backdated pay raises from November 1st, 2022.

The wages of the main collective bargaining agreement will increase between 35,000 ISK and 52,258 ISK per month, with an average increase of 42,000 ISK. The percentage increase in the purchase rate is between 9.5% and 13% and the average increase is over 11%. The proposal establishes a new job title, generally staff of guesthouses, which, after a three-month trial period, will be ranked in pay category 6.

Monthly wages for members who do not take wages at the bargain rate increase by 33,000 ISK from November 1st, 2022.
