A muddy flood fell in Patreksfjörður today around 10 AM this morning. No houses or persons were affected.

The flood fell down the same path as the flood that hit Patreksfjörður in 1983, but the muddy flood today was much smaller in magnitude.

There is relatively little snow in the mountain above the town, but the situation is still being assessed and the area is closed. Residents are asked to stay away from the flood course, since the possibility of flooding cannot be ruled out. No evacuation is considered necessary at this time.

On Sunday, 40 years had passed since the devastating flood in Patreksfjörður on January 22 nd 1983 which claimed four lives and causes severe damages to houses and property. Last Sunday there was a memorial service held in the town in honor for the four people who died that day, forty years ago.
