Orange alert tomorrow in the South
The Icelandic Met Office has issued an orange warning for windy weather and heavy snow in South Iceland tomorrow. The warning will take effect at 7 AM in the morning and will remain in effect until 15 AM. A yellow warning has been added to the capital region in the New Year’s Eve.

Heavy winds along the coast
It is calculated that thirteen to twenty meters per second and substantial snowfall occurs first in Reykjanes, but later on the south coast and under Eyjafjöll before noon. Winds will be heaviest along the coast and in the mountains.
Expect snow flurries, poor visibility and impassability, but the weather should go down somewhat as the day progresses.
Yellow alert in the capital in the New Year
A yellow warning has also been issued for the capital area, Breiðafjörður and Vestfirðir. There strong eastern winds and a snowstorm can be expected from 2 AM until noon on New Year’s Day. The yellow warning will remain in effect until 6 PM January 1st. Transport disruptions are expected in the New Year and poor driving conditions.
The Icelandic Road Administration has already warned of possible road closures in South Iceland due to the weather. It states that a severe weather can be expected on New Year’s Day.
