A flying customer who is not paying
A small redwing has been staying in the Nettó store in Mjóddin in Breiðholt for four days. According to the manager of the store, Pavel Velikov, the redwing is quiet and customers have taken to it well.
Pavel says store employees have been trying to get the bird out repeatedly and without success.
No one has complained
“We’ve tried several times, but it’s obviously way too cold for it outside. There are lots of people feeding it food and water in the store. It’s hot inside and cold outside – he doesn’t feel out.”
Pavel says it is important not to hurt the bird, so attempts to get it out of the shop have been unsuccessful.
The night watch provides food and water for the bird so that it does not starve inside the store. He adds that getting the bird out is a priority before closing the holidays.
“It doesn’t disturb anyone, it’s just in the attic. No one has complained so far.”
Mostly by the frozen foods
Asked if the bird is trying to pick at the store’s products, Pavel replies negatively, stating that the bird has no interest in vegetables or other products. It mostly stays with the freezer products.
“That’s the weirdest thing about this bird. It’s just standing around frozen foods and by the meat,” he says, adding that it feels most comfortable close by the refrigerators.
Pavel believes that the bird got in through a large door at the back of the store where goods are brought into the store.
