A nightbus will be back from downtown Reykjavík to different neighbourhoods in the Reykjavík area after a two year hiatus. The bus will run on weekends, Friday night and Saturday night, at least over the summer and it will start tonight after midnight, says in an announcement from Strætó .

The new board of Strætó met last Friday and everybody agreed that the nightbus should be driving on weekends from downtown. The board is responding to a need and a wish from residents of the city who want more service and especially more options after hours on the weekends.”

In the announcement it is stated that the idea is to use as ecofriendly buses as possible for the nightlife buses.

Testing the demand until September

The nightbus is in a testing phase until next September when the board will assess the demand and how it is working for customers and the company. They will go over the different routes, but two more routes will be added since they tried this in 2020, so the routes are now seven total.

The buses will only drive from downtown, not to the downtown area. The buxes will not drive according to a regular time schedule, but will leave downtown at certain hours that you can see here below.

Cheaper ride using Klapp payment

The customers can both use regular bus tickets for the ride, i.e. Klapp tickets, or the Klapp app monthly Klapp cards or annual Klapp cards. In addition, it will be possible to pay with a creditcard or money, but then you will pay a 1,000 ISK, but if you use the Klapp tickets the price is 490 ISK.
