A great deal of snow has accumulated in Akureyri, North Iceland, in recent days, Morgunblaðið reports. Akureyri Mayor Ásthildur Sturludóttir states the residents are used to dealing with lots of snow at this time of year – they’ve seen it worse, or whiter, than this.

“Everyone is doing their best in terms of snow removal; the amount of snow is enormous, and it all takes time,” she states.

She believes everyone should be able to get to work even though some cars are buried in snow. As a mayor, she is aware of the cost involved in snow removal. “Luckily, we haven’t had much snow this winter until now. Weather is something we can’t control… It’s impossible to estimate the cost right now. The bill will arrive at the end of the month,” she concludes.

The kids in town did not complain about the snow and hurried outside to enjoy it. Skiers were delighted as well. You may be familiar with the many steps up to Akureyri Church. It must have taken a while to shovel the snow off all of them. No need for the person who did that to go to the gym today.
