Only Four New Cases of COVID-19

Only four new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iceland yesterday, according to covid.is. Only once since September 13 has the number been lower. That was on Saturday when three new domestic cases were confirmed. Of the four people diagnosed yesterday, two were already in quarantine. One person tested positive at the border yesterday. Results from an antibody test are being awaited.
There are currently 52 people in the hospital with COVID-19, four of them in intensive care. At present, there are 233 active cases of the disease in Iceland.
The 14-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 59.2. One person died of COVID-19 at Landspítali National University Hospital two days ago, bringing the death toll of the pandemic to 26 in Iceland.
At a press conference this morning, Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason stated that he worries people will get more careless about disease prevention measures during Christmas.
Director of Health Alma Möller stated that health authorities were contemplating publishing special instructions to people regarding how to best prevent infections over the holidays.
