Park with a View and Plenty of Art

Vala Hafstað

Biking westward, uphill toward Hallsteinsgarður park in the suburb of Grafarvogur, the eastern part of Reykjavík, is no easy task, according to mbl.is, but this is where the old saying, No pain, no gain, is appropriate. Once you get to the park, you discover quite a collection of art and a spectacular view.

In it, there are 16 aluminum sculptures, made by sculptor Hallsteinn Sigurðsson (b. 1945), who donated them to the City of Reykjavík in 2013. He installed the sculptures there between 1989 and 2012, and the park was given the name Hallsteinsgarður, meaning Hallsteinn’s park.

It is a popular place to enjoy the view of the ocean and to watch the sunset.
