Travelers in the East Fjords and Southeast Iceland need to be aware that dangerous wind gusts are expected in these areas this afternoon and evening, creating hazardous driving conditions.

At road.is, the website of the Icelandic Road Administration, the meteorologist warns of very strong and turbulent wind from the mountains on the main road near Jökulsárlón, Southeast Iceland, this afternoon and evening, including dangerous wind gusts of 40-50 m/sec.

Likewise, Safetravel.is warns travelers of the area between Skaftafell and Höfn í Hornafirði, where hurricane-force wind gusts of 40-50 m/sec can be expected.

Slow down, they warn, and they emphasize that this weather is too windy for camper vans. 

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a yellow alert for the East Fjords and Southeast Iceland today. A westerly strong gale of 15-23 m/sec is expected, with wind gusts of 30-35 m/sec in places. Travelers are asked to drive carefully, and residents are asked to secure loose objects outdoors.

For the East Fjords, the warning is in effect from 5 pm till 10:30 pm, while for Southeast Iceland, it is in effect between 1 pm and 8 pm.
