Racist propaganda has been distributed at the University of Iceland, causing the rector of the University, Jón Atli Benediktsson, to post this message on his Facebook page:
“Equal rights are the guiding light at work at the University of Iceland and the basis for diversity and respect in the university community. This is why I’m saddened to see that an organization of nationalists has in recent days distributed hateful and racist messages on campus. This won’t be tolerated. At the University of Iceland, everyone should feel secure, and we should all help to ensure that there is respect for the diversity of mankind.
I have asked caretakers of the University’s property to be on the alert and to throw all racist propaganda where it belongs – in the trash.”
According to mbl.is, a neo-Nazi group is responsible for the distribution of the propaganda. They have put up posters and distributed flyers to students’ mailboxes.
