“This building is here for future generations,” Mábil Másdóttir, director of the recently opened Hótel Geysir, Southwest Iceland, tells mbl.is.

The 77-room luxury hotel, Hótel Geysir, opened August 1 in Haukadalur valley. The rooms are spacious and range in size from 29 to 90 m2 (312-967 sq ft).

In the video above, you can view the hotel from the air and take a look inside the building, said to be among the most luxurious hotels in the country. The building was designed by architect Brynhildur Sólveigardóttir, while the interior design was done by Leifur Welding.

The video features an interview with Mábil and her sister-in-law, Svafa Thoroddsen, who is marketing director of the hotel.

Mábil describes the hotel rooms, which were designed to be spacious to increase comfort. Svafa describes how the interior of the rooms emphasizes environmentally friendly things, in line with the hotel’s green policy.

Colors, sound and insulation are designed to increase the guests’ comfort. Mábil states that guests have been very pleased so far. This is a family firm, run by the same family for three generations.

Mábil and Svafa are optimistic that the tourism industry in Iceland will continue to flourish, despite a slight downturn this year. She believes there is a strong willingness in Iceland to offer quality service to tourists, and she senses more unity than before within the industry.

“Iceland needs to be united,” Svafa states. “We are in competition with the rest of the world, and there are numerous people in Iceland doing great things for tourism – in recreation, accommodation and more.”
