Iceland Beats Hungary 4:1
The Icelandic women’s national soccer team beat Hungary 4:1 at Laugardalsvöllur arena in Reykjavík last night, mbl.is reports. This was the teams’ first qualifying match for the UEFA Women’s EURO, which will take place in England in July of 2021.
This was the Icelandic team’s first international match since Jón Þór Hauksson took over as coach in October of last year.
Elín Metta Jensen scored two goals for Iceland, and Hlín Eiríksdóttir and Dagný Brynjarsdóttir one each. Henrietta Csiszár scored Hungary’s goal. At halftime, the score was 1:1, but the Icelandic team demonstrated its strength during the second half.
Iceland and Hungary are in Group F in the qualifying matches, along with Sweden, Slovakia and Latvia. Only the teams that finish at the top of their group, or finish strong in second place compared to other teams, will make it to England in 2021.
