One of Iceland’s most beautiful houses, located in the western part of Reykjavík, is for sale.

Anna Margrét Jónsdóttir has been restoring her house on Túngata 34 in recent years. At the time she and her husband bought the property, it was beautifully restored, but they have in recent years completed the project. Until now, they have never wanted any media coverage of the house, but now they want it to get into the right hands.

“When I originally bought the house, what impressed me the most was how well the former owner had kept its original look,” Anna Margrét tells mbl.is .

“They had worked with experts on fixing the original rosettes. They discovered a painting behind a closet in the entry hall and brought in red glass for that space to perfectly match the original color of the front door,” she continues.

The house is roughly 300 m2 (3,230 sq ft), not counting the attic. The house was built in 1926, and almost every part of it has been remodeled, the exterior as well as the interior. Most spaces have an extra high ceiling. The whole house has solid hardwood floors.

Why, then, are they selling the house?

“There are mixed feelings about selling this beautiful house, but one of our children is moving out, and there is something inside me calling for more restoration projects.”

“I hope the house will land in the hands of someone who appreciates its origin. Our family has shared wonderful moments here. Besides, the location is unique, in one of the city’s most beautiful parts, in my opinion,” Anna Margrét states.

Interior designer Sólveig Jónsdóttir worked with Anna Margrét on executing modifications to the center floor. The kitchen was completely remodeled, as was the bathroom on the main floor.
