South Iceland police have confirmed that two adults and one young child, all non-Icelanders died in the accident at Núpsvötn bridge this morning. Four people, two adults and two children aged 7 and 9 were taken to hospital in helicopters. 

Their condition is not known as yet but they had to be removed from the wreck using iron clippers.  The car they were driving was a Toyota Landcruiser. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
