Captain of the Iceland men's national football team, Aron Einar Gunnarsson wa proud of the team's performance yesterday against Croatia despite losing 2:1.

"I'm proud of the boys and how they did, especially during this match. We knew this would be a difficult match but we decided to play  on the offensive. We got a lot of chances and we can be proud of our performance," he told mbl.is.

"It's difficult to swallow, especially because if we had scored on more goal we could have made it. That's how football is sometimes but we can be proud and hold our heads high."

Iceland could have gone forward in the competition if they had one goal over Croatia seeing as Argentina won Nigeria.

" I hope Icelanders are proud of us. It was great just being in the Group D at the World Cup." He adds that the team aim to get into the Euro 2020 championships.
