 President Guðni Th. Jóhannsson continues to win the hearts of the Icelandic public with his laid-back manners and heartfelt attitude. It has come to light that he sent a text message to the head of the National University Hospital on December 27th on the day of the fatal coach accident in South Iceland. 

"I don't remember any president sending hospital staff such a greeting," said Anna Sigrún Baldursdóttir, assistant to the director of Landspítalinn speaking to Morgunblaðið. 

His text message was as follows: "Could you please send my sincere thanks to all staff who are under strain and doing so well under the pressure. Best regards, Guðni (President). "

On December 27th a coach carrying Chinese tourists crashed into a car and skidded off the road. One was killed in the crash and 22 were transported to the hospital via helicopter. 

There is still one person in intensive care following the accident and four are still recovering in the general recovery department.
