Specialists from the Reykjavik Police and from the City of Reykjavik met with Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament) General and Educational Committee this morning to talk over increased security in Reykjavik Centre.

This has been a hot topic in Iceland ever since the disappearance of Birna Brjánsdóttir from the city centre earlier this year.

“We discussed plans and collaborations to improve security in the city centre. Like violent free clubs and bars, more police officers in the centre and increasing the number of security cameras,” says Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, head of the committee.

Earlier this year Sigríður Björk Guðjónsdóttir, police commissioner had promised 30 new security cameras would be put up in Reykjavik centre before 1 May.

Sigurbjörnsdóttir added that with these actions, peoples should be even safer in the centre of Reykjavik.
