A poem and a song written for Birna Brjánsdóttir
Writer Friðrik Erlingsson wrote a poem in the memory of Birna Brjánsdóttir and renowned Icelandic musician Gunnar Þórðarson wrote a song for the poem.
The poem is called "Alein" in Icelandic which means "Alone." Erlingsson wrote the poem after Birna's body was found washed up on the beach near Selvogsviti lighthouse.
The words in Icelandic are translated here below:
Alone, you our daughter you dwelled
in the sound of thundering waves
The ocean, full of grief, brought you home again
The country folded you back into its arms
through the long night
We grieve for you, sister to us all
Sleep in peace
The song is performed by Stefanía Svavarsdóttir and Kristján Gíslason and you can here it here below.
