Visit the Icelandic Presidential residence today - everyone welcome!
The Presidential Residency of Iceland, Bessastaðir is open to the public today between 6 and 10 pm as part of the Winter Lights Festival.
This was announced by the President's office this morning. Visitors will be able to look at the eighteenth century stone buildings, presents received by the embassy and archeological artefacts showing habitation of Bessastaðir from the age of settlement in Iceland in the ninth century.
Guests will also be able to visit the reception halls and library, and to take a look at the first Presidential car, a Packard owned by the first president of the Icelandic republic, Sveinn Björnsson from 1942.
