The National Coastguard of Iceland received a distress signal from a French sailboat missing since this summer between Portugal and the Azores. The signal was located south west of Grindavík and a national coastguard helicopter was dispatched.

Rescue teams were sent to the coastline where they found wreckage from the boat at around 6 am east of Hópnes. No further signs were found of the boat but search will continue on the coastline.

In a story published on August 24th by French publication Le Parisien it says that there was one man on the boat, Jo Jef Le Goff, 64 years old. He left Bretagne on June 5th and arrived in Leixoes, near Porto in North Portugal on July 7th. From there he was headed for the Azores but disappeared.

When Le Goff's brother had received no messages he contacted the coastguard at Pas-de-Calais. The weather conditions at the time were good so it was believed that he either fell overboard, became ill or had an accident.

The search for further wreckage continues today.
