The accident occurred in an area next to the Secret Lagoon.

A tourist in his sixties is still in intensive care after receiving bad burns to his hands, legs and chest after falling into a geyser. Police in South Iceland say that the water he fell into was at a temperature of 96°C , almost boiling point.
According to police the man had walked out of the Secret Lagoon, a popular bathing spot onto a wooden walking path. He tripped and fell into the geyser. He managed to climb out by himself but had been immersed in the boiling water for a few seconds.
