It seems that there are at least some Icelanders who crave a McDonalds. The customs opened a suspicious package recently which was found to contain a hamburger from McDonalds mailed from Hungary.

Seeing as the hamburger was fully cooked the package was allowed to be sent forward to the receiver.

"The hamburger had everything on it, just as if it was being handed over to a customer at McDonalds," said a letter from customs sent to mbl.is today.

Whether the hamburger was actually eaten or whether it tasted nice after a 7 - 10 day journey is however not known.

The first McDonald's opened in Iceland in September 1993 and the last one closed in 2009. The fast food chain is not planning on returning to Iceland, at least for the time being.
