Iceland Easter opening times 2016
Plan ahead and don’t get caught out by Easter closures!
Bars and restaurants
Bar, clubs and other entertainment venues will close at midnight on Thursday night, and remain closed all day Good Friday. They may open again at midnight till 3am or 4:30am. Business as usual on Saturday night, except all venues must close at 3am. Everything closed all day Easter Sunday, but may open at midnight till 3am or 4:30am.
Restaurants should be open through the entire Easter weekend, but check with your preferred dining venue first.
Supermarkets
All Hagkaup , Nettó and Bónus supermarkets will be closed all day on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The same goes for Krónan , except that selected locations in Greater Reykjavik will be open on both days. Follow the links for more detailed information.
Vínbúðin
All Vínbúðin alcohol stores in Iceland will be closed on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
All stores in Greater Reykjavik are open 11am-6pm on Saturday, with times varying in the rest of the country. For exact details, see here .
Public transport
Buses are running as usual on Saturday, but a ‘Sunday schedule’ will be in force on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. See here for more details.
Other entertainment
Places exempt from Icelandic legislation on Easter closing on Good Friday and Easter Sunday include art exhibitions, concerts, plays and cinemas, although such events may not begin before 3pm on Good Friday. Please check the website of the individual events you are interested in.
