Snow storm: Rescue teams at work

Rescue team Húnar in Hvammstangi have been hard at work since the storm hit this afternoon. The team have come to the rescue of eight cars stuck on the mountain road of Holtavörðuheiði.

In Stykkishólmur, many of the town roads have become impassable as well as in the town of Grenivík. Reports were made of signs blowing away at Ásbrú and rescue teams were called out to secure them. 

Teams from Svalbarðseyri and Þingeyjarsýsla in North Iceland have also aided people getting stuck in cars and in South Iceland rescue teams are on call to close off roads. Rescue teams in the West Fjords are on alert due to increased avalanche risk. 

The weather in the capital is pretty bad with rain and strong winds but should go down later in the evening.
