Euro 2016 handball campaign begins Friday

This Friday sees the start of the Euro 2016 European Handball Championship in Poland, with Iceland one of sixteen national teams going for gold.

Iceland qualified into the finals top of their group, with four victories from six games. Iceland have been a force to be reckoned with in recent editions of the Championship, making the top five in both 2010 and 2014.

Iceland will face Belarus, Croatia and Norway in the initial group stage. Iceland’s main-round qualification campaign begins with a clash against neighbours Norway on 15 January, followed by Belarus on 17 January. Iceland’s match against two-times-finalists Croatia takes place on 19 January.

Iceland has qualified for the European finals on every occasion it has been held since 2000 and is a well-respected team in international handball circles.
