German handball to hold on to Sigurðsson
The German Handball Association (link in German) has extended the contract of Iceland’s Dagur Sigurðsson, coach on the men’s national team, to 2020.
Sigurðsson was originally hired until 2017 but such is the Association’s satisfaction with the Icelander’s work that his contract has been extended to cover the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Sigurðsson is credited with turning around the ailing fortunes of the German men’s national team, taking them to seventh place in the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championship and qualifying them for the 2016 European Handball Championship, to be held in Poland in January.
He has made major changes to both team and strategy since taking over some eighteen months ago.
