Search-and-rescue teams were deployed off the coast of North-East Iceland just after noon today in response to a fire on a trawler.

Two rescue ships from the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) were called out to the vessel in distress, which at the time was located 25 nautical miles NNW of Sauðanes in North-East Iceland.

A helicopter with smoke divers from the fire brigade was also sent out, together with the patrol ship Þór from the Icelandic Coast Guard. The scene was monitored by an overhead ICG aircraft.

According to ICE-SAR, the fire has been contained to the trawler’s engine room and the crew is in no immediate danger.
