This week saw the long-awaited reveal of the plans for the new hotel to be built next to Reykjavik’s Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, a five-star Marriott EDITION.

The Marriott EDITION – due to open for business in 2019 – will not, however, be Iceland’s first five-star hotel. Pipping the Marriott to the post is the new Blue Lagoon Hotel, a new 74-room luxury hotel surrounded by the waters of one of Iceland’s main tourist attractions.

The project – covering 7,500 m2 – also includes a new restaurant, new spa facilities and a doubling of the Lagoon’s current size.

Due to open in spring 2017, the new Blue Lagoon Hotel is certain to hold the title of Iceland’s first five-star hotel.
