UNICEF thanks Iceland for Nepal aid

Kent Page, a UNICEF aid worker in Nepal, has sent this message of thanks to the Icelandic people for their support following the earthquake which struck Nepal in April.

UNICEF Iceland began collecting on 25 April and donations have already passed the ISK 18 million mark (approx. €120,000).

Sigríður Víðis Jónsdóttir, Communications Officer at UNICEF Iceland, has told mbl.is that donations have been going very well in Iceland. “People all over the country – young and old – have lent their support. Various events have been organised and a lot of money raised.”

Despite these good results, there is still much work to be done in Nepal. “People are still in desperate need,” says Jónsdóttir. “We are still providing vital aid and reconstruction work is under way […].”

Donations go towards ensuring clean water and sanitation for children, providing medicines and shelter, and getting children back to school.

You can add your donation to the fund at UNICEF Iceland here (page in Icelandic).
