Police issues warning over PMMA drug
The Reyjkavik Police have issued a warning over the PMMA drug which resembles MDMA but is far more dangerous. The substance is usually in pill-form, can be sold as Ecstacy and often bears a Superman logo but could have changed. Those used to the effects of MDMA may be tempted to take in a second pill as the effects come very late, and a second pill can often be fatal.
PMMA causes a rapid increase in body temperature, brain swelling, problems in blood circulations, destruction of liver and muscle cells and in the worst cases, death.
Many deaths have been connected to PMMA in Britan and in Sweden recently and Interpol issued a warning.
Both PMMA and MDMA are illegal drugs in Iceland.
One death has been reported due to PMMA in Iceland when a young woman in Reykjavík died in 2011.
