Icelandic musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson received a Golden Globe award last night for best musical score in the movie The Theory of Everything.

Below is his acceptance speech at the award ceremony.

In an interview with mbl.is in December Jóhannsson said, "Working on such a strong project and being able to take part in a movie like this is reward enough for me, everything else is a bonus."

Jóhannsson has received great acclaim for his compositions and is also well known as one of the founders of Icelandic band Apparat Organ Quartet who play "rock and roll with keyboards," and have released two very well received albums. Jóhannsson is a co-founder of Kitchen Motors, an art collective and record label and has produced and written music with Stilluppsteypa, Pan Sonic, Marc Almond, The Hafler Trio and many more.

The Theory of Everything tells the story of the relationship between astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and his first wife.

The others nominated for best score were  Alexandre Desplat for The Imitation Game, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Gone Girl, Antonio Sanchez for Birdman and Hans Zimmer for Interstellar.

Jóhannsson has also been nominated for a BAFTA for his score to The Theory of Everything.

Here are a few examples of Jóhannsson's work from late eighties rock band Daisy Hill Puppy Farm to his recent compositions.
