Tourists saved in highlands
Driving a Renault Mégane through the Icelandic highlands in a December storm is not the best idea but thankfully the travellers got back safe and sound. Photo/ Blanda rescue team
Two men from Switzerland were found by Blanda, a search and rescue team from Blönduós, north Iceland, last night after a call for help at 3 a.m. Their car had become stuck on the Kjalvegur road which crosses the highlands and is closed in winter. The men were travelling in the storm in a rental car, a Renault Mégane, and had no idea that the road was not passable.
The grateful travellers were brought back safely at 8.30 this morning after driving through a heavy blizzard.
