Today at 13.13 the Civil Protection department of the National Police received an announcement that a plane had landed at Keflavik International Airport carrying a passenger possibly infected with Ebola. An Icelandic doctor went on board wearing protective clothing and has confirmed that the individual was not infected with Ebola.

According to the Civil Protection Department the plane received permission to land as it was carrying a sick passenger. Only shortly before landing did they receive information that doctors on board suspected Ebola.

An Ebola response team was prepared and the National University Hospital and the Suðurnes health department was immediately notified. The plane was from an international airline and did not arrive to Iceland from one of the the three countries of Africa affected with the virus. The man on board was from South-Africa and did not have any symptoms of Ebola. He was transported to a hospital in Reykjavík for treatment.
