Red fox in Þingvellir?
Fox and mink-hunter Reynir Bergsveinsson believes that a red fox is living in Þingvellir national park, south Iceland. There are no red foxes in Iceland, only Arctic foxes which can only mean that someone smuggled the animal to the country and released it.
Bergsveinsson has not seen the animal itself but has noticed large fox footprints at Þingvellir for the past four years. "The Icelandic fox, or Arctic fox, has a notably different pace to the red fox. I firmly believe that this is not an Icelandic fox. This fox walks in an even line and the footprints are evenly spaced while the Icelandic fox has more of a skipping step.
He also recalls that in 2012 someone smuggled a live marten to Iceland onboard a ferry from Scandinavia, and that the animal was found in Reykjavík.
