Summer of 2022 will be busy in Icelandic tourism and already it is getting difficult to get hotels in some areas as well as rental cars.

"We are almost to the maximum capacity for June, July and August in many areas," says Unnur Svavarsdóttir the managing director of the travel agency GoNorth and adds that they are also seeing a shortage of rental cars during these months.

Most Icelandic restaurants use local produce in their dishes.

Most areas fully booked for the high season

Davíð Torfi Ólafsson the managing director of Icelandhotels agrees with Svavarsdóttir and confirms that in most areas they are fully booked for the high season. "It can be difficult to get hotel rooms in July and August everywhere in the country," he says. Overall it looks like all Icelandhotels in all areas in the country are well booked this summer.

People are staying longer

It looks like people are coming out of their cocoons after Covid and tourism is picking up as a result. Svarsdóttir with GoNorth says that a lot of tourists from Northern-Europe will be in Iceland this summer. "We are getting great tourists. They stop for a long time and wine and dine in restaurants. There will be a lot of action in Icelandic tourism this summer."
