The Icelandic Met Office has issued an orange weather alert for all of Iceland tonight, mbl.is reports.

All over the country, the weather will rapidly deteriorate in the afternoon, first in South Iceland.

Tonight, we can expect a storm or violent storm with wind speeds of 20-28 m/sec. in most parts of the country, with heavy snow, sleet or rain.Transport disruption is likely, traveling is not advised while the weather warning is in effect. Wind damage can be expected. Residents are advised to secure their neighborhood, and contractors are encouraged to secure building sites.

In the capital area, winds will blow from the southeast tonight, turning southwesterly by morning.People are advised to clear drains to prevent water damage.

In South Iceland, the winds will be southeasterly, turning southwesterly after midnight.

In the West Fjords, a northeasterly storm or violent storm is expected tonight, while in North Iceland and East Iceland, the winds will blow from the southeast.

In the central highlands, a violent storm with snow is forecast for tonight.

The worst weather is expected to be over by 7 or 8 am tomorrow, depending on the region.
